Prof. Hisham is a highly qualified fetal medicine consultant with a diverse range of qualifications. He has more than 35 years of experience and has worked in many universities and institutions. He worked as Professor and chair of Obstetrics & Gynecology department in United Arab Emirates University. He was also the Chief, Fetal Medicine Unit in Tawam Hospital in Al Ain and the President of Emirates Perinatal Society.

Prior to joining NMC Royal Hospitals in Abu Dhabi, Prof. Hisham was the head of Fetal Medicine Department and Consultant Maternal Fetal Medicine at Danat Al Emarat Hospital. He was also the head of academic affair and designated institute official and the ambassador for the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology.

Prof. Hisham got his M.B.B.Ch from Kasr Al Aini School of Medicine, Cairo University, Egypt in 1986, and while masters of Obstetrics & Gynecology (MGO) from Khartoum University, Sudan in 1993. He also obtained Membership of the Arab Board of Medical Specializations for Obstetricians & Gynecology (Arab Board), Damascus in 1994.

Prof. Hisham is a Member of Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynecology (MRCOG), United Kingdom since 1995 and is also certified from Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynecology / Royal College of Radiologist (RCOG/RCR) for advance Obstetrical Ultrasound.

Prof. Hisham has a Fellowship in Fetal Maternal Medicine from University of Toronto, Canada since 1999, is a Fellow of Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynecology (FRCOG), United Kingdom since 2007.

Prof. Hisham also got his Master of Health Professions Education (MHPE) from Maastricht, The Netherlands in 2012.

Prof Hisham has numerous achievements to his credits:

  1. Led the establishment of the first Fetal Medicine Unit in UAE at Tawam Hospital.
  2. Established the first Fetal Unit in Sudan
  3. Established the Diploma in Advanced Diagnostic Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology at United Arab Emirates University.
  4. Led the first intrauterine fetal blood transfusion group in United Arab Emirates.
  5. Led the establishment of the first Ex-Vivo Human Placenta perfusion Laboratory at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, College of Medicine & Health Sciences, UAE University.
  6. Awarded research grant from the UAE University of AED 226,000 ($62,000.00) to compare the transport of sotalol and flecainide (antiarrhythmic drugs) across the placenta using the ex-vivo human placenta perfusion model.
  7. Awarded best Teacher for the Clinical Science Course for 2003/2004. Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences, United Arab Emirates University.
  8. Awarded the “Distinguished Service Award 2008-2009” by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, United Arab Emirates University.
  9. During my leadership as Chair, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology was awarded the ‘Excellence in Teaching Award 2007” Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UAE University
  10. Awarded special recognition for outstanding presentation at the 3rd Annual Research Conference of the UAE University, May 2002. Oral presentation "The Effect of Maternal Fasting during Ramadan on Human Fetal Activity".

Prof. Hisham speaks Arabic and English
