What is breast cancer?
Cancer is a disease in which cells become abnormal form more cells in an uncontrolled way. With breast cancer, the cance begins in cells that make up breasts - usually in the tubes that carry milk to the nipple or the glands that make milk. The cencerous cells form a mass of tissue called tumour. Sometimes, the cancer spreads to the other parts of the body.
What is breast cancer screening?
The risk of developing cancer increases, as you get older. Although some risk have been identified, the causes of breast cancer are not fully understood. The best action is to detect it early to performing regular breast screening, which enables early treatment. Complete breast cancer screening includes a mammogram, clinical breast exam by a doctor and breast-self exam. Remember early detection saves lives.
What is mammogram?
A mammogram is the best screening tool used today to detect breast cancer. Its an x-ray of the breast, and can detect cancer before you notice any problems in your breast. A mammogram can detect the cancer when it is small and easy to treat, often without losing a breast. Healthy Authority Abu Dhabi recommend that all women undertake a mammogram screening evry two years starting from the age of 40 (earlier if you have a family history of breast cancer).
