NMC Provita - Longterm Care Unit
NMC ProVita, a subsidiary of NMC Healthcare, has opened a new long-term care and rehabilitation unit inside NMC Royal Women’s Hospital in Abu Dhabi.
Established in 2011, NMC ProVita is the pioneer of post-acute care in the region and a leading provider of specialized treatment for long-term care for non-acutely ill patients of all ages. The new long-term care unit will cater exclusively to women and children, providing its patients with access to the highest quality of healthcare services, and is conveniently located in the heart of Abu Dhabi.
The facility was officially inaugurated by NMC Healthcare CEO Michael Davis on 25th Aug 2020. The centre is part of NMC Healthcare’s network of hospitals, medical centers, and pharmacies which provide premium healthcare services across the Emirates. It is the first long term care and rehabilitation unit dedicated exclusively to women and children in the United Arab Emirates.
The centre will provide women and children with access to the Provita’s world class, internationally accredited long term care services, whilst also allowing them to benefit from the existing facilities at NMC Royal Women’s Hospital; the capital’s first private hospital dedicated to mother and child care. ProVita’s highly skilled team of specialists will continue to deliver top quality medical care in this new location.
A team of specialised NMC ProVita physicians, nurses, and therapists will be delivering cutting edge medical solutions and customised treatment programs to patients in an accessible location for Abu Dhabi residents.
NMC ProVita International Medical Centre, is the UAE’s largest provider of post-acute care and rehabilitation services. Covering patients of all ages, it provides Long Term Care, Post-acute Rehabilitation, Outpatient Rehabilitation, Home Hemodialysis & Home Health Services.
Established in 2011 in Khalifa City, Abu Dhabi – NMC ProVita was the pioneer in Long Term care in the UAE and also the GCC. It was designed to be able to treat patients who required long term care in a home like environment that promoted quality of life as well as around the clock medical, therapy and nursing care. Within two years it had opened its second facility in Al-Ain.
NMC Provita then expanded into admitting and treating post-acute rehabilitation (PAR) patients. A programme that was set up to treat in-patients who needed intense therapy over a period of a few months before being discharged home.
In 2015, NMC ProVita opened its first ‘hospital in hospital’ long term care & rehabilitation unit within NMC Royal Hospital, Abu Dhabi. In addition to the NMC Provita services it also has the added advantage of acute hospital services such as ICU and radiology that can be offered to NMC Provita patients.
Following on from its post-acute rehabilitation (PAR) programme, NMC Provita ensured it was able to offer the continuum of care for its patients and successfully opened its first Outpatient rehabilitation services also within NMC Royal Hospital, Abu Dhabi.
To date NMC ProVita now operates and manages 8 facilities and 2 long term care units throughout the Emirates including Ruwais, Al-Ain & Sharjah. It covers the largest geographical area in the post-acute spectrum. This includes over 300 inpatient beds and 6 Outpatient facilities.
Having established itself as an experienced and leading provider in post-acute care, NMC ProVita firmly took its place in Home Health services in 2016. Today NMC ProVita proudly operates and manages Americare.
Finally, in 2018, NMC ProVita began offering Home Hemodialysis services through Reaya. This service is also available throughout the Emirates.
NMC ProVita became the first Long Term Care facility in the UAE to achieve Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) in 2013. It has continued to successfully renew this accreditation every 3 years, most recently in 2019. In addition NMC Provita also achieved the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities International (CARF) in 2017 and is on course to renew in 2020.
Quality of life
NMC ProVita was established in 2011, initially for patients who needed long term care. It was the first of its kind in the UAE and indeed in the GCC. Before this time patients were looked after in intensive care units across the country. NMC ProVita provides a setting where patients receive more than just medical care. It provides a home-like environment where quality of life is promoted and patients’ personal goals and dreams are shared.
NMC ProVita’s large villas are designed to ensure patients feel like they are living in a home from home rather than a hospital setting. Every patient’s room is uniquely decorated to the individual patients taste and can accommodate family members too. The Villas are surrounded by beautiful gardens and are safe and easy to access for patients to enjoy.
Quality of Life can mean feeling like a person and not a patient. It can mean taking part and enjoying social and cultural activities that the rest of us takes for granted. It can mean freedom and choice.
Attending university and school under full clinical escort is everyday practice for many of our patients. For those who are not well enough to attend school, we have an in-house classroom and specialist teacher. Children with even the most severe of disability are still able to learn using modern technologies such as the 'eye gaze machine'. Graduation days in NMC ProVita are filled with proud parents and staff alike.
For many patients, NMC ProVita has opened up doors that they never thought possible. It has meant winning art awards and graduations. It has meant being a princess for a day. It has meant shopping at a mall or simple quality time with family. Whatever is the dream of our patients being the goal for our team.

At NMC ProVita we recognize that each patient is an individual. Maintaining dignity and promoting their own personality is a fundamental right. To help ensure our patients feel like people and not patients we have an in-house beautician and a visiting barber to make our patients feel lovely on the outside too. We know it is the small things that can make the biggest difference.
NMC ProVita are known for its facility held celebrations for many cultural days and social occasions such as Iftars, national day, birthday parties and many more. These times are cherished by patients, families and staff alike, as it is on occasions like these that we are truly one family.
