Foetal medicine is a branch of medicine that includes the assessment of foetal growth and wellbeing, the maintenance of foetal health and the diagnosis of foetal illnesses and abnormalities. As prenatal diagnosis has improved, so has our capability to diagnose problems before birth.
The NMC Foetal Medicine Centre will operate exclusively for Gynaecological Scans, Prenatal Examinations and Treatments. The latest state-of-the-art 4D Ultrasound Technology will help to perform extensive foetal assessment including expert evaluation of baby’s development from the initial stages of pregnancy until birth, early findings of abnormalities, genetic screening for known and hidden disorders and follow up of high-risk pregnancies.
A neonatologist is a paediatrician who specialises in treating new-borns. Physicians refer their patients to a neonatologist for complex and high-risk births. When babies are born prematurely, with a birth defect or with a serious illness, a neonatologist may assist with the delivery and attend to the new-born’s medical needs. Neonatologists consult with obstetricians if pre-natal sonograms suggest the possibility of a birth defect or disease.
The Neonatology unit encompasses Level 3 Neonatal ICU that combines advanced state-of-the-art technology and equipment from world-class brands such as DRAGER, among others, and are manned by trained healthcare professionals to offer specialised neonatal care. The unit is equipped to deal with premature and pre-term babies.
