Dr. Mayada Younis is a British doctor of Iraqi decedent. Her entire schooling, as well under and post graduate training has been in the United Kingdom. She graduated from Bart’s & The London Medical School, Queen Mary College, University of London in 2004. She was amongst the top 5 of her medical medial college and left with numerous awards, prizes and honors in both medicine and surgery. She obtained her MRCOG from the prestigious Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, UK in 2010 and has been a member of the RCOG since. She completed her consultant training and obtained her Certificate of Completion of Consultant Training (CCT) in 2013, from the General medical council (GMC) in UK.
Dr. Mayada has published widely in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with over 15 publications, presentations and has held various positions in committees and congresses. She has participated in the production of various audits and guidelines on the management in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Whilst in the United Kingdom, Dr. Mayada worked and trained in the London, Yorkshire and East Anglia regions. After completing her consultant training she joined a tertiary referral hospital for endometriosis, advanced laparoscopy and urogynaecology in Sydney Australia. She finally settled in UAE, where, prior to joining NMC Royal Women’s Hospital, Dr. Mayada Younis was a Consultant in one of the leading multi-specialty hospitals in Abu Dhabi for 2 years.
Within the field of obstetrics her special interest lies in high-risk obstetrics, maternal medicine (managing comorbidities in pregnancy - including preconception counseling) and labour ward management. Her aim is to support women to achieve the best possible outcomes for themselves and their baby, as close as safely possible to natural birth with the least complications. Although she is experienced in performing complicated caesarean sections, she herself has a low primary (first) caesarean section rate among her patients. She is experienced in performing instrumental (vacuum and forceps assisted) deliveries, vaginal birth after up to two caesarean sections, investigation and management of recurrent pregnancy loss, prevention and management of premature labour, as well as the management of obstetric emergencies. She completed the Maternal Medicine Advanced Training Skills Module in 2012 whilst working at Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust, UK. She also completed the Advanced Labour Ward Practice Advanced Training Skills Module, Managing Obstetric Emergencies & Trauma (MOET) all in year 2013 whilst working with Peterborough City Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. She has been an Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) instructor since 2013.
Within gynaecology Dr. Mayada's special interest lies in reproductive endocrinology and management of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Her Bachelor of Medical Sciences degree was in the field of reproductive endocrinology where she took part in, and published, medical research into the cause of PCOS. While working and training at The Ipswich Hospital, UK she obtained Diploma of Faculty of Sexual & Reproductive Healthcare in 2008. She is also a competent gynaecological surgeon. She is currently completing the Benign Abdominal Surgery: Open & Laparoscopic Advanced Training Skills Module. She is experienced in performing abdominal, vaginal, laparoscopic as well as hysteroscopic benign gynecological surgeries. This includes surgery for the management of endometrial hyperplasia, menorrhagia (heavy periods), uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts and fallopian tube pathology, endometriosis and adenomyosis as well as uterovaginal prolapse
Dr. Mayada take pride on being a doctor that practices evidence-based medicine whenever possible and works to international standards and guidelines. She keeps herself abreast with advances in medicine by reading medical journals and attending international conferences. She is an approachable doctor, with an easy, down to earth manner, who has an eye for detail and always takes the time to listen to patients concerns. She believes that the key to optimizing patient care lies in thoroughly educating patients on their conditions, so they can make informed decisions about their management and treatment plans.
